Neo-Hellene Poets, an Anthology of Modern Greek Poetry, 1750-2018

POEM BY MILTOS SACHTOURIS

BEAUTY

He sprinkled beauty over ugliness

took a guitar

walked along the river

singing

He lost his voice

stolen from him by the crazy woman

who severed her head in the red waters

and the poor man has no voice to sing anymore

and in the river the serene head

flows with closed eyelids

Singing
