bloomed crocuses crying
for their share of bitter omen

sulfur and brimstone rising
out of hell camouflages helmets
adorns gun barrels
how to chant odes to the mother
of a soldier hugging death
night by night how can one
sing of glory purple hearts
and epode under the tank?
