LONG LISTED FOR THE 2023 GRIFFIN POETRY AWARDS
Evening Serenity
But, slowly and with certain fear, I noticed that
no one spoke of the foreigner who came and sat
at the edge of the table during our dinner; only
the pregnant woman made a gesture as if she had
to remain seated at the time they were turning her
away;
but when everyone had left, a strange serenity
took over and only the quiet crying of the woman
was heard and the distant rustling in the countryside
as if someone consoled somebody for something
that could never be corrected.
