Yannis Ritsos – Poems, Volume VI

Ambiguous Pose
In the night, on whatever side you turn,
you find the same wall again up to the top
with the nails and the cracks
from which the shadow of the house evaporates.
In the morning, the chairs step on the floor again
On their four legs, on one chair, lies the headless
doll, on the other chair lie the four keys and
the red gloves.
